Helena Knive
Meet the Artist
Helena Knive (b. 2000, Larvik) is a textile artist educated at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She works with Norwegian wool, exploring the qualities of the material through techniques such as felting and weaving.
With a particular interest in the Spælsau, one of Norway's hardiest sheep breeds, Knive has spent considerable time getting to know the unique qualities of its wool. Each knot and every colour reflect a deep respect for a simple yet powerful material, and for the lives of the sheep it comes from.
Her motifs are often abstract and humorous, drawing associations with everyday life and familiar elements from our surroundings. Through her work, she highlight the distinctive qualities of wool and invites us to see a material with long traditions in a new light.
